Every session starts by listening to you, and treatment is adjusted to what your body needs that day.
What massage therapy treats
Massage treats superficial and deep muscle layers and the connective tissue around them. It is used to treat and prevent injury and pain, increase flexibility, improve circulation and support a sense of wellbeing through relaxation.
Massage is one of the oldest documented healthcare practices, referenced in Chinese medical texts more than 4,000 years old and recognized in Western medicine since Hippocrates. At Renu we use those same principles, applied with modern anatomical understanding, to normalize tissue, improve circulation and restore movement at any life stage.

Which massage style suits you
Choose by what you are feeling, not by name. If you are unsure, book a general massage and your therapist will blend techniques after a short conversation.
- Swedish massage: gentle, full-body, flowing strokes with light to medium pressure. Ideal if you are new to massage, carrying a lot of tension, or sensitive to touch.
- Deep tissue massage: slow strokes, direct pressure and friction across the grain of the muscle to release chronic patterns of tension.
- Sports massage: Swedish and deep tissue techniques adapted to training, performance and recovery from injury.
- Massage and lymphatic combination: therapeutic muscle work paired with manual lymphatic drainage to optimize the lymphatic system in the same session.
- Table Thai massage: stretching, acupressure and rhythmic compression performed on the table, fully clothed, to improve flexibility and restore energy.
- RAPID NeuroFascial Reset (upper body): precise techniques that work with the nervous system and fascia to release neck, shoulder, jaw and headache-related restriction. Performed on dry skin as a standalone treatment.

Questions and guides about massage therapy
Self-careA daily jaw-relaxation routine for TMJ painTeeth apart, tongue behind the lower front teeth, face still, lips slightly apart: check it four random times a day and drop the habits that load the jaw.
Self-careA walking program for lymphedemaA six-week walking program for lymphedema: 10-minute walks building toward Canada's 150 minutes a week, garment on, shoes that fit, and breaking up sitting.
Oncology supportAxillary web syndrome (cording) after breast surgeryCording is a tight cord under the arm that appears 2 to 8 weeks after breast or node surgery. It is common, not a clot or recurrence; therapy helps.
AnswersCan a deep tissue massage make my pain worse?Yes, temporarily. In trials, 1.5 to 25 percent of people felt more pain after massage, usually for a day or two. Pain that sharpens or spreads needs a call.
AnswersCan a massage damage a nerve?Rarely, and rarely seriously. Tingling or a zing during a massage is a nerve warning, not an injury. Where nerves sit exposed and what irritation is.
AnswersCan I ask my massage therapist to stop or change the treatment?Yes, at any moment and for any reason. Consent in massage therapy is ongoing: you choose the pressure, the areas, what you undress and whether to continue.
How much does a massage cost at Renu?
A 60-minute massage is $120 and a 90-minute massage is $157. Sessions start at $80 for 30 minutes. New clients can book a 60-minute massage for $120 + GST that includes a complimentary infrared cocoon session.
Do I need to choose Swedish or deep tissue when I book?
No. Book a massage for the length you want and tell your therapist how you are feeling. Most sessions blend techniques, and pressure is adjusted throughout.

Yes. The massage and lymphatic combination (60 or 90 minutes) pairs therapeutic muscle work with manual lymphatic drainage in one session.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing. For table Thai massage you stay fully clothed; for other massage you undress to your comfort level and are draped with sheets throughout.
