Prenatal massage in NW Calgary
Prenatal massage is a nurturing, adapted massage for expectant mothers that eases the common discomforts of pregnancy: back pain, swelling, fatigue and muscle tension. Our Registered Massage Therapists use gentle, safe positioning and techniques that relax muscle tension and improve lymphatic and blood circulation as the body changes. Sasha Bernard specializes in prenatal and postnatal massage, and Will Tanner also offers prenatal care.
What prenatal massage addresses
Pregnancy shifts posture, loads the low back and hips, and changes circulation as hormones relax the ligaments. Prenatal massage relaxes muscle tension, improves lymphatic and blood circulation, and addresses the aches that come with those skeletal and circulatory changes. Research suggests prenatal massage can also reduce anxiety and symptoms of depression, relieve muscle and joint pain, and support better labour outcomes and newborn health.
- Low back, hip and sciatic discomfort
- Swelling in the legs, ankles and hands
- Neck and shoulder tension
- Fatigue and difficulty sleeping
- Postpartum recovery and tension from feeding and carrying
How the session is adapted
You are positioned comfortably with supportive cushioning, usually side-lying, and draped throughout. Pressure is adjusted to your stage and comfort, and areas that need care in pregnancy are treated accordingly. Because several of our therapists are also lymphatic-trained, gentle lymphatic techniques can be woven in for swelling.
