At Renu, post-op lymphatic drainage costs $105 for 30 minutes, $115 for 45 minutes and $140 for 60 minutes, and a 90-minute session for two or more procedures done in one surgery is $210. A pre-op classic lymphatic session is $130 for 60 minutes. The right length depends on how many areas were operated on, and your first post-op session should wait for your surgeon's go-ahead.

In Jane, the 60-minute post-op session can also be booked under the procedure you had: abdominoplasty, 360 lipo and mommy makeover; breast surgery; face and neck; or 360 lipo with a BBL. The price is the same $140. Choosing by procedure simply tells us what to prepare for before you arrive.
Matching the session length to your surgery
The length you need follows the size of the area that was operated on and how many lymph node regions it drains toward. As a starting point:
- 30 minutes, $105: a small area. Chin and neck liposuction, eyelid surgery, a hand or wrist procedure, or a quick check-in session later in recovery when swelling has mostly settled.
- 45 minutes, $115: one moderate region, such as arms after arm liposuction, a breast procedure, or one knee once your orthopaedic surgeon has cleared massage.
- 60 minutes, $140: the usual choice for the abdomen and flanks after liposuction or a tummy tuck, 360 lipo, or a BBL’s liposuction areas. It leaves time to clear the neck, armpits and groin before working on the swollen tissue.
- 90 minutes, $210: two or more procedures done in one surgery. A mommy makeover, or liposuction of several areas combined with a breast or abdominal procedure, often needs this time in the first weeks.
You do not have to stay at one length. Many people start with longer sessions while swelling is at its peak and step down to 30 or 45 minutes as things soften. Your therapist will suggest when that makes sense.
Why a post-op session costs more than a classic one
The $10 difference between the post-op hour ($140) and the classic hour ($130) reflects work that a general lymphatic session does not involve. In the first weeks after surgery, a session often means:
- checking incisions, bruising and any drain sites before starting
- taking your compression garment off and helping you back into it, which takes real time when you are sore
- working around tender, swollen tissue with care, and changing the plan as swelling and firmness change from visit to visit
- watching for the warning signs that mean you should see your surgeon instead of having treatment
For cosmetic and plastic surgery, post-op lymphatic drainage is delivered through BodyTox by Renu, our lymphatic body studio in the same clinic. Oncology and orthopaedic post-op work is done by Meeghan Mackenzie, RMT and Certified Lymphedema Therapist. Compression garment fitting is also available at Renu ($25 for a 30-minute fitting), which matters because the American Society of Plastic Surgeons notes that a customized compression garment is often worn for four to eight weeks after liposuction.
How often surgeons ask for sessions, and what that means for your budget
Frequency is set by your surgeon, and protocols vary widely. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons says many surgeons recommend lymphatic massage begin the day after liposuction and continue several times each week for two months, to help prevent fibrosis, contour irregularities and lumps. One U.S. plastic surgery practice publishes a stricter protocol: daily sessions from the day after surgery, at least 10 in a row, with more depending on swelling, fibrosis and healing.
ASPS also describes the usual liposuction recovery: bruising should be gone and swelling should start to subside by weeks four to five, with continued improvement from week six. That is why most of the cost of post-op care is concentrated in the first month.
At Renu prices, a week with two 60-minute sessions is $280; three is $420. If your surgeon’s plan is more frequent than your budget allows, tell us. We can suggest how to space the sessions you can afford, and how to use self-care and your garment well between them.
Check with your surgeon first
Your surgeon’s clearance comes before your first session. At Renu, post-op work can start as early as 24 hours after surgery with your physician’s approval, provided there is no infection or other contraindication. Our page on when you can start lymphatic drainage after surgery explains the usual timing for different procedures.
Among the reasons Cleveland Clinic gives for avoiding lymphatic drainage massage, several matter most after an operation: a blood clot or deep vein thrombosis, cellulitis or another infection, and fever; heart disease, kidney failure and stroke are also on its list. After surgery, call your surgeon rather than booking a session if you notice:
- one calf or arm suddenly more swollen, warm or painful than the other
- a fever, or redness and heat spreading from an incision
- sudden shortness of breath or chest pain, which needs emergency care
Booking post-op sessions at Renu
Book through Jane under pre and post-op lymphatic drainage, choosing the length or the procedure-specific 60-minute option. Bring your garment and your surgeon’s instructions. We are in West Hillhurst on 19 Street NW, open seven days a week, which helps when a surgeon asks for sessions close together. If you are deciding between two lengths, call 403-270-2111 and tell us what was done; we will help you pick.
Questions people ask
Why is a post-op session $10 more than a classic lymphatic session?
The 60-minute post-op session is $140 against $130 for the classic hour because the work is planned around a healing surgical site. Your therapist checks incisions and swelling, takes the garment off and puts it back on, and adjusts to what has changed since the last visit, all inside the same booked time.
When does the 90-minute multiple surgeries session make sense?
When two or more procedures were done in one surgery, such as liposuction of several areas with a tummy tuck or a breast procedure. At $210 it gives enough time to clear the node regions and treat each operated area without rushing any of them.
Is a pre-op lymphatic session worth booking?
It is optional. We offer one to three classic 60-minute sessions at $130 before surgery to prepare the tissue and to let you meet your therapist while you feel well. If your budget is tight, put the money toward the first weeks after surgery instead, when swelling is at its peak.
Can I book a post-op session in Calgary if my surgery was somewhere else?
Yes, as long as your surgeon has cleared you and you can tell us what was done. Bring your operative notes or discharge instructions if you have them. Our page on getting lymphatic drainage in Calgary after surgery abroad covers what to bring.
