If you live, work or study in northwest Calgary, Renu is a Registered Massage Therapist clinic in West Hillhurst, the inner edge of the NW, about 4 km by road from the University of Calgary and from Foothills Medical Centre. Sessions run from 30 to 90 minutes, we are open until 8:30 pm on weekdays and every weekend, and you can park on the street for free. This page is about the practical side: where we sit in the NW, how people reach us, and what to book once you are here.

Where West Hillhurst sits in the northwest

West Hillhurst is an inner-city NW community in Ward 7. Its eastern edge is 18 Street NW, where Hillhurst ends, and it runs west to 28 Street NW, with the Bow River along its southern side. Crowchild Trail cuts straight through the middle of it.

That location matters for an NW commute. Our building at 209 19 Street NW is one block into West Hillhurst, a few minutes off Crowchild Trail, so you can reach it from the north and west of the city without crossing downtown. To the north are Hounsfield Heights/Briar Hill and St. Andrews Heights, the communities around the Foothills campus.

Getting here from the rest of the NW

The roads people use depend on where they start. These distances come from OpenStreetMap routing to our door; we give distance only, because the time depends on traffic on Crowchild and 16 Avenue.

Starting point Typical route Distance
University of Calgary University Drive NW, then 5 Avenue NW to 19 Street NW about 4.3 km
Foothills Medical Centre 16 Avenue NW, then south on 19 Street NW about 4.0 km
Brentwood CTrain station (Varsity) Crowchild Trail NW, then 5 Avenue NW about 4.8 km
Market Mall (Varsity) Shaganappi Trail, Bowness Road, Parkdale Boulevard, Kensington Road NW about 6.4 km
Central Bowness Bowness Road, Parkdale Boulevard, Kensington Road NW about 8.2 km

By transit, Lions Park station on the Red Line is the closest CTrain stop, about 1.5 km on foot. A few routes link the big NW anchors to the train:

  • Route 40 runs from Crowfoot station to Lions Park station by way of Foothills Medical Centre.
  • Route 104 connects the 5 Street NW terminal at Sunnyside with the University of Calgary and the Foothills hospital.
  • Route 9 runs between Dalhousie and Chinook stations, stopping at Foothills Medical Centre and the University of Calgary.

If you are a hospital or university employee, an appointment straight after a shift often works better than a weekend trip back. Our pages on massage for nurses and the University of Calgary student health plan cover those situations in more detail.

What NW clients usually book, and what it costs

Most people choose a session length by how many areas need work. A short appointment suits one region; a longer one gives time for the whole back or the whole body.

Session Length Price
Massage 30 min $80
Massage 45 min $100
Massage 60 min $120
Massage 75 min $141
Massage 90 min $157
Massage and lymphatic combination 60 min $130
Massage and lymphatic combination 90 min $165

A rough guide:

  • 30 minutes for one stubborn area, such as the neck and shoulders after a week at a desk.
  • 60 minutes for the back, neck and shoulders together, which is what most first visits need.
  • 75 or 90 minutes for full-body work, or for someone who trains hard and wants legs and back covered in one appointment.
  • The massage and lymphatic combination when you want muscle work along with a lighter lymphatic portion for heaviness or swelling.

New clients can book a 60-minute massage that includes a complimentary 20-minute session in our infrared cocoon pod. Full details of every session are on the massage therapy page, and the cost of a massage in Calgary page compares lengths and benefit use.

Choosing an RMT in the northwest: what to check

Ask about training, experience and credentials, and how many sessions a problem is likely to need, before you commit. That is the advice from the US National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, and it applies here too. A few Alberta points are worth knowing:

  • Massage therapy is not yet regulated in Alberta. It is not a profession under the Health Professions Act. The Massage Therapist Association of Alberta reports that its application for regulation was at the Minister Review stage as of March 2025. Our therapists are Registered Massage Therapists through their professional associations, which is what benefit plans generally look for. Our page on regulation and your benefits explains the details.
  • Student massage is a separate service. Our student practitioner offers lower-priced sessions, but these are not RMT services, so check your plan before claiming.
  • Tell us your history. NCCIH describes serious harm from massage as rare, but it notes cases of blood clots, nerve injury and fractures, mostly with vigorous deep tissue work or in people at higher risk. Mention recent surgery, a history of clots, pregnancy, osteoporosis or blood thinners when you book.

Booking from the northwest

You can book any session online through Jane or call 403-270-2111. Weekday hours are 8:00 am to 8:30 pm, so an early slot before work at the Foothills campus or an evening after classes both fit. Saturday and Sunday we are open 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, handy if you live farther out in the NW and would rather make the trip once traffic is lighter. Street parking on 19 Street is free, and Lions Park station is about 1.5 km away on foot.
