At Renu in West Hillhurst, a massage with a Registered Massage Therapist is $80 for 30 minutes, $100 for 45, $120 for 60, $141 for 75 and $157 for 90. The price is the same whether the session is Swedish, deep tissue, sports or relaxation, because you pay for time with the therapist, not for a style. A few specialty treatments, such as RAPID NeuroFascial Reset and the massage and lymphatic combination, have their own rates.

A massage with a Registered Massage Therapist at Renu costs $80 for 30 minutes and $120 for an hour, with three other lengths in between and beyond. The style you choose does not change the price. This page sets out every massage rate we publish, what a minute of treatment costs at each length, where a few specialty treatments differ, and what to expect from tax and benefit plans.

Renu’s massage prices, length by length

Our massage prices are set by time. Swedish, deep tissue, sports and relaxation massage, or a blend chosen with your therapist after a short conversation, all use this list.

Length Price Cost per minute
30 min $80 about $2.67
45 min $100 about $2.22
60 min $120 $2.00
75 min $141 $1.88
90 min $157 about $1.74

The per-minute column shows the usual pattern: short sessions cost more per minute because the conversation at the start, getting settled on the table and the time between clients do not shrink with the booking. If you regularly find yourself asking your therapist to “just do the legs too” at the end of an hour, the 75-minute session is often the answer. Our page on whether a 60 or 90-minute massage is better helps with that choice.

One rate, whatever the style

You do not pay extra for firmer pressure. A deep tissue session uses slow strokes, direct pressure and friction across the grain of the muscle; a Swedish session uses flowing strokes at light to medium pressure; a sports massage blends both around your training. They take the same therapist time, so they cost the same.

This also means you are not locked in when you book. Choose a length, tell your therapist what you are feeling, and expect the session to be blended to what your body needs that day. If the pressure is wrong halfway through, say so; nothing about the price changes.

Our Registered Massage Therapists include Meeghan Mackenzie, Dr. Will Tanner, Sasha Bernard, Monica Von Gaza and Leah Buschau, several with extra training in lymphatic drainage, prenatal care, TMJ treatment, cupping or RAPID.

Where the price is different

A handful of treatments have their own rows, because they are planned differently from a general massage:

  • Massage and lymphatic combination: $130 for 60 minutes, $165 for 90. Muscle work and manual lymphatic drainage in the same session.
  • RAPID NeuroFascial Reset (upper body): $85 for 30 minutes, $110 for 45, with Monica. A shorter, nervous-system-focused treatment for the neck, shoulders and jaw.
  • Prenatal massage, TMJ massage and myofascial cupping: priced in line with the massage list ($120 for 60 minutes; prenatal and cupping are $157 for 90).
  • Student massage: from $60 for 60 minutes with Jennifer, a massage therapy student from the Alberta College of Massage Therapy. Student sessions are not RMT services, so check your plan before you count on a claim. Our page comparing student massage and RMT massage explains the trade-off.

If you are new to Renu, the new client special is a 60-minute massage for $120 plus GST that also includes a complimentary 20-minute session in the infrared cocoon pod. The details are on our page about what the new client massage special includes.

Budgeting for a problem rather than a treat

A single massage is a pleasant hour. For a specific complaint, such as a stiff neck from long days at a desk or a back that tightens every ski season, the honest budget is for a short series. The U.S. National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health summarizes research suggesting massage could give short-term relief of neck pain if sessions were long enough and frequent enough, and notes that the risk of harmful effects appears low.

A 2024 Cochrane review of massage for neck pain went further on dose. Its subgroup analysis found a clinically important difference favouring a high dose, defined as eight or more sessions over four weeks, each 30 minutes or longer, although the overall certainty of the evidence was low and many trials used only a single session.

In Renu’s prices, that research-style course would look like this:

  • eight 30-minute sessions: $640
  • eight 45-minute sessions: $800
  • eight 60-minute sessions: $960

Very few people need exactly that, and your therapist will suggest a rhythm that fits your problem and your budget. But it is a useful reality check: one appointment rarely settles a pain that took months to build.

Tax, regulation and benefit plans in Alberta

GST. The Canada Revenue Agency lists Alberta at 5% GST with no provincial sales tax. Massage therapy is not currently exempt from GST; the Canadian Registered Massage Therapist Association has pushed for it to be added to the health services exempted under federal legislation. Our page on GST on massage therapy in Alberta explains the rules.

Regulation. Massage therapy is not yet a regulated health profession in Alberta. According to the Massage Therapist Association of Alberta, its application for regulation was submitted to the Minister of Health in October 2024 and was at the stage of Minister Review as of March 2025. Our therapists are Registered Massage Therapists through their professional associations. Our page on whether massage therapy is regulated in Alberta covers what that means for you.

Benefits. Private extended health plans and health spending accounts are the usual way people claim massage; our page on whether Alberta Health Care covers massage therapy explains the provincial side. Before your first visit, check your plan’s yearly maximum, whether it needs a doctor’s note and which therapist credentials it accepts. The page on how extended health plans cover massage therapy in Alberta has a checklist.

Questions people ask

Is a deep tissue massage more expensive than a relaxation massage?

Not at Renu. Swedish, deep tissue, sports and relaxation massage all sit on the same price list, so a 60-minute deep tissue session is $120, the same as a 60-minute relaxation session. You can also change your mind on the table and ask for lighter or firmer work without changing the price.

How much is a 90-minute massage in Calgary?

At Renu a 90-minute massage is $157. That is about $1.74 a minute, compared with about $2.67 a minute for a 30-minute session, so the longer booking is the better value if you need several areas treated.

Why is a 75-minute massage $141 and not a round number?

The 75-minute price sits on the same curve as the other lengths, between $120 for an hour and $157 for 90 minutes. It is a useful length when 60 minutes always feels rushed but 90 is more than you need.

Do I pay tax on a massage in Alberta?

Alberta has 5% GST and no provincial sales tax. Massage therapy is not currently on the list of GST-exempt health services, and our new client special, for example, is published as $120 plus GST.
