If you are in Kensington or Hillhurst and want a massage you can walk to, Renu is one block past the western edge of Hillhurst, at 209 19 Street NW in West Hillhurst. From the Kensington Road and 10 Street NW corner it is roughly 1.5 km on foot, and the nearest CTrain stops are each under 2 km away. Our Registered Massage Therapists offer general and therapeutic massage, cupping, prenatal massage and lymphatic drainage, and street parking out front is free.
How close we are to Kensington and Hillhurst
We sit just outside Hillhurst, not inside it. Hillhurst runs from 10 Street NW on the east to 18 Street NW on the west, between 8 Avenue NW and the Bow River. West Hillhurst starts at 18 Street, so our building on 19 Street is the first block over.
The two communities share more than a border. Hillhurst and Sunnyside are served by one community association, the Hillhurst-Sunnyside Community Association, and the Kensington Business Revitalization Zone adjoins Hillhurst. When people say “Kensington”, they usually mean that shopping district around Kensington Road and 10 Street NW. Riley Park and SAIT are also inside Hillhurst, so students and anyone spending an afternoon in the park are close by too.
Getting here without a car
Walking, cycling and the CTrain all work well from Kensington. These distances come from OpenStreetMap foot routing; we leave out walking times because pace varies so much.
| Starting point | On foot to the clinic |
|---|---|
| Kensington Road at 10 Street NW | about 1.5 km |
| Lions Park CTrain station (Red Line) | about 1.5 km |
| Sunnyside CTrain station (Red Line) | about 1.9 km |
A few notes for each option:
- CTrain. Sunnyside station, at 938C 3 Avenue NW, is the first stop after the downtown Free Fare Zone on the Red Line’s northwest leg, and it is wheelchair accessible. Bus routes 4, 5 and 104 also connect there.
- Bike or on foot from downtown. The Kensington area connects to the Bow River Pathway, and the Peace Bridge carries walkers and cyclists across the river from downtown. Both Hillhurst and West Hillhurst run down to the river on their south side.
- Before or after a downtown workday. We open at 8:00 am and close at 8:30 pm on weekdays, so a session can fit on either side of office hours.
Parking: free on 19 Street
Driving is simpler here than in the middle of Kensington. The Kensington BRZ lists more than 700 parking stalls serving the shops, above and below ground, across the KCP Parkade, Campana Place and several city lots. Those are useful for a shopping trip. For a massage appointment, though, you can park on 19 Street at no charge and walk straight in, which also means no meter running if your session goes the full 90 minutes.

- Cupping. Monica Von Gaza offers myofascial cupping, where silicone cups are moved along the muscles as part of the treatment, and Dr. Will Tanner offers fire cupping with heated glass cups. If you have not had it before, our page on your first cupping session explains the marks and aftercare, and myofascial cupping has the full description.
- Prenatal massage. Sessions are 60 or 90 minutes, positioned for comfort as pregnancy progresses. See prenatal massage.
- Therapeutic massage. For a sore back, neck or shoulders, most people start with 60 minutes. If it is your first massage anywhere, what happens at your first massage appointment walks you through it.
- Lymphatic drainage. A light, rhythmic technique for swelling, heaviness and recovery after surgery, led by our Certified Lymphedema Therapist, Meeghan Mackenzie. See lymphatic drainage massage.
A few things to tell us before you come
A short conversation at booking saves time on the table. Let us know if any of these apply, because they change how we plan the session or whether we should wait:
- you are pregnant, and roughly how far along;
- you have had surgery recently, or have new swelling in one arm or leg;
- you take blood thinners, bruise easily or have a skin condition in the area you want cupped;
- you have a history of blood clots.
Throbbing pain and swelling in one leg, especially with red or darkened skin, can be a sign of a deep vein thrombosis, so see a doctor before any massage. If those symptoms come with chest pain or shortness of breath, call 911.
Booking from Kensington
Book online through Jane or call 403-270-2111. Weekday hours are 8:00 am to 8:30 pm and weekend hours are 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, so a Saturday walk along the river can end at the clinic. If this is your first visit, the new client special pairs a 60-minute massage with a free 20-minute infrared cocoon session. Every price is listed on the massage therapy page.
