TummyTox lymphatic tummy massage in Calgary
TummyTox lymphatic tummy massage in Calgary: a 45-minute abdominal Brazilian lymphatic session ($225) for bloating, with an optional $25 infrared add-on.
By The Renu lymphatic and massage team · 5 min read
TummyTox is Renu's 45-minute lymphatic tummy massage: focused Brazilian lymphatic drainage of the abdomen at BodyTox by Renu, for $225. It is meant for a bloated, puffy or heavy-feeling stomach and for feeling flatter before an event, and you can add a 20-minute infrared and red light session in the cocoon pod for $25. It eases fluid retention and can help sluggish digestion feel more comfortable; it does not remove belly fat.
TummyTox is a lymphatic tummy massage: 45 minutes of focused Brazilian lymphatic drainage on the abdomen, waist and flanks at BodyTox by Renu. People book it when their stomach feels puffy, tight or heavy, when digestion feels slow, or when they want to feel flatter before a wedding, a trip or a photo. This page covers what happens in the session, what it can and cannot change, the infrared add-on, and the times a bloated stomach needs a doctor instead.
What a TummyTox session involves
The TummyTox is 45 minutes for $225, booked online through Jane under BodyTox by Renu. Our Brazilian lymphatic drainage team is Aisha Mendes, Meeghan Mackenzie and Sasha Bernard, trained in the Detox By Rebecca method.
Brazilian lymphatic drainage is firmer and faster than the feather-light clinical technique used for lymphedema. On the abdomen that means rhythmic strokes over the belly, waist and flanks, directed toward the lymph nodes, for the whole 45 minutes. The goal is to move fluid that has settled in the tissues and to leave the area feeling lighter and more toned.
What to know before you come:
- You stay draped, with the abdomen uncovered for the work.
- Pressure is firmer than a relaxation massage but should never hurt; say so if it does.
- A very full stomach makes abdominal work uncomfortable, so eat lightly beforehand. See what to eat and drink before a BodyTox session.
Afterwards, you can go back to your day. Cleveland Clinic notes that a few people feel tired, headachy or a little nauseous after lymphatic massage; water, a light meal and an easy evening usually settle it. If you want the flatter feeling to last into an event, the habits around the session matter as much as the session itself: water through the day, and the NHS bloating advice of smaller, more frequent meals and fewer fizzy drinks, alcohol and caffeine.
Adding the infrared cocoon
You can add a 20-minute infrared and red light session in the cocoon pod for $25. It is a private, warm session that turns a 45-minute visit into a longer reset.
Infrared heat is not for everyone. Cleveland Clinic suggests avoiding infrared saunas during pregnancy, while trying to conceive, with multiple sclerosis, or when you are unwell, and recommends bringing water with you. Spots in the pod are limited, so mention the add-on when you book.
What it can and cannot do
The honest scope of a TummyTox:
| It can | It cannot |
|---|---|
| Ease a puffy, fluid-heavy stomach for a while | Remove belly fat |
| Make the abdomen feel lighter and flatter before an event | Replace treatment for a digestive condition |
| Support more comfortable digestion | Undo the effects of food, alcohol or salt that keep causing puffiness |
| Give you 45 quiet minutes on the table | Produce a permanent change from one session |
There is real evidence that abdominal massage helps the bowel. In a randomized trial of 60 people with constipation, adding abdominal massage to their usual laxatives for eight weeks reduced gastrointestinal symptoms and abdominal pain and increased bowel movements, although laxative use did not fall. A 2025 meta-analysis of 23 studies (1,431 people) found abdominal massage increased weekly bowel movements, shortened gut transit time and eased constipation symptoms, again without reducing laxative use. Those studies tested abdominal massage for constipation, not Brazilian lymphatic drainage for bloating, so take them as a reasonable signal rather than proof for this treatment. The NHS also lists gently massaging your stomach among self-help tips for bloating.
If your bloating is mostly gas rather than fluid, lymphatic work will help less. Our answer on whether lymphatic drainage helps with bloating explains how to tell the two apart.
TummyTox or Full BodyTox
Choose the TummyTox when the abdomen is the only area that bothers you, or you want a shorter, lower-cost visit before an event. Choose the Full BodyTox (90 minutes, $315) when you want the arms, legs, tummy and face treated, back cupping, vacuum RF and the infrared session included. Our page on full-body lymphatic drainage massage in Calgary goes through that option, and the Full BodyTox vs TummyTox comparison sets them side by side.
On cost: a TummyTox with the pod add-on is $250 for about 65 minutes of treatment, while the Full BodyTox is $315 with the infrared session already included. If you are hoping to claim either on a benefit plan, read whether Brazilian lymphatic drainage is covered by insurance before you book, since this is an esthetic body treatment rather than a clinical one.
Who should skip it, and when to see a doctor
Skip the TummyTox and talk to your doctor or surgeon first if:
- you are pregnant. Abdominal Brazilian work is not a pregnancy treatment; see Brazilian lymphatic drainage while pregnant and ask us about prenatal options;
- you had abdominal surgery recently, such as a tummy tuck, C-section or liposuction, and your surgeon has not cleared abdominal work; post-op lymphatic drainage is the right booking in the meantime;
- you have a fever or an infection, or a history of blood clots, heart disease or kidney failure, all of which Cleveland Clinic lists as reasons to avoid lymphatic drainage.
A bloated stomach is usually harmless, but not always. The NHS advises seeing a doctor if bloating keeps coming back, does not improve after changing your diet, or comes with unintentional weight loss or blood in your stool. Get urgent help for bloating with severe or sudden stomach pain, vomiting, fever or a lump in the abdomen. Those need a diagnosis before anyone massages the area.
Questions people ask
How soon before an event should I book a TummyTox?
Because the effect is on fluid, it is temporary, so book close enough to the event that the lighter feeling is still there. Our answer on booking Brazilian lymphatic drainage before an event gives the timing in detail.
Should I eat before a TummyTox?
Avoid arriving with a very full stomach, since the work is directly over it. Our answer on what to eat and drink before a BodyTox session has the details.
Can I have a TummyTox during my period?
Tell your practitioner when you book and again on the table so the session can be adjusted. Our page on Brazilian lymphatic drainage during your period covers what to consider.
Is the TummyTox the same as the abdominal part of the Full BodyTox?
It is the same style of Brazilian work, given more time on one area. The Full BodyTox spreads 90 minutes across the arms, legs, tummy and face and includes the infrared pod; the TummyTox stays on the abdomen for 45 minutes.
