iA Financial Group massage therapy claims
iA Financial Group massage therapy claims: check the provider in iA's search before each visit, then claim at the clinic, online, in the app or by mail.

iA Financial Group, the same insurer as Industrial Alliance, lets group plan members claim massage therapy and acupuncture four ways: at the clinic with the group benefit card, in My Client Space, in the iA Mobile app, or on a paper form. iA asks you to check your provider's eligibility in its Provider search before each treatment, because it does not cover services from providers whose business practices do not meet its standards.
iA Financial Group makes massage and acupuncture claims easy to submit and asks one thing in return: check that your provider is still eligible before each treatment. That single habit prevents the most frustrating kind of declined claim, one where the visit happened, you paid, and the provider turns out not to qualify.
iA and Industrial Alliance are one insurer
If your benefit card, claim form or clinic’s billing screen says Industrial Alliance, you are in the right place. The company’s legal name is Industrial Alliance Insurance and Financial Services Inc., and it does business as iA Financial Group. The TELUS Health eClaims network still lists it as Industrial Alliance.
This page is about iA group benefits, the kind you get through an employer or association, since that is how most Calgarians with iA coverage are insured. Your amounts, percentages and any referral requirement are set by your plan and listed in your booklet or in My Client Space.
Check the provider first, every time
iA’s paramedical claims page opens with a tip rather than a form: validate your provider’s eligibility before each treatment using the Provider search in My Client Space or the iA Mobile app. The reason is in the next sentence. Expenses incurred with providers whose business practices do not meet iA’s standards are not covered by your group insurance.
In practice, that means:
- Search by name, not just by clinic. Eligibility belongs to the individual therapist or acupuncturist.
- Repeat it before a new series. Standing can change between visits, which is why iA says “prior to each treatment.”
- Keep a screenshot of the search result with the date if you are starting a long course of care.
Alberta adds a reason to be careful: massage therapy is not a regulated health profession here, so insurers rely on association membership and their own reviews. Our page on delisted massage providers explains what happens when an insurer stops accepting a provider.
Four ways to claim
| Route | What you do |
|---|---|
| At the clinic | Show your group benefit card (also in the iA Mobile app) when you pay, if the provider offers electronic submission |
| My Client Space | Sign in and submit the claim online |
| iA Mobile | Submit from your phone |
| Paper | Print, complete and hand-sign the medical expenses form; mail it with receipts |
iA’s Express Claims Processing lets many professionals submit directly from their office. Its list includes acupuncturists, chiropractors, massage therapists and physiotherapists, with some other professions in certain provinces only. On the eClaims network, iA places no restriction on massage therapist claims. Our page on how direct billing works explains what happens at the front desk.
For paper claims from Alberta, the form directs you to Group Health and Dental Claims, PO Box 4643, Station A, Toronto, Ontario M5W 5E3. Attach the original receipts; iA does not return them, so keep a copy for income tax purposes and for coordinating with a second plan.
Referrals and receipts
iA’s public pages leave referral rules to your plan. The Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association says standard plans from Canada’s life and health insurers do not require a physician’s referral for paramedical treatment, but some plan sponsors build one in. Check your booklet before your first visit.
Whatever the plan, a clean receipt saves a second round. It should name you, the date, the service, the amount, and the practitioner with their credentials and registration details. Our page on what a massage therapy receipt needs to show has the full list.
Lymphatic drainage and iA
iA’s lists are organized by profession, and none of them includes a lymphatic or lymphedema therapist. A lymphatic drainage session given by a Registered Massage Therapist is claimed as massage therapy and counts against your massage maximum, the same as any other massage that year.
If you are recovering from surgery and expect several visits, two habits help with iA in particular. Run the Provider search for the therapist before the first session and again before you book the rest of the series, as iA asks. And keep each receipt separate rather than combining visits, so each one shows its own date, service and amount. If a spouse’s plan also covers you, claim with the first plan, then send iA the balance with the first insurer’s statement.
Acupuncture and massage at Renu with iA
At Renu, acupuncture is with Dr. Will Tanner, who is a Registered Massage Therapist and acupuncturist, and massage therapy and lymphatic drainage are with our Registered Massage Therapists. iA treats acupuncturists and massage therapists as separate professionals, so check each line of your plan.
Our published acupuncture prices:
| Acupuncture session | Length | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Initial consultation and treatment | 90 min | $150 |
| Return visit | 60 min | $120 |
| Follow-up | 45 min | $85 |
| Acupuncture and massage combination | 90 min | $167 |
A combination session blends two professions in one visit. Before booking one, ask iA how it should be claimed on your plan, since the two benefits may have separate limits. Massage prices are on the massage therapy page.
Search for your practitioner in iA’s Provider search before you book, then book online through Jane from the acupuncture page. Sessions with our student practitioner are not RMT services, so confirm with iA before counting on a claim.
Questions people ask
Is iA Financial Group the same as Industrial Alliance?
Yes. The company's full name is Industrial Alliance Insurance and Financial Services Inc., and it operates as iA Financial Group. Claim forms, the TELUS Health eClaims list and older benefit cards may say Industrial Alliance; it is the same insurer.
Why does iA want me to check my massage therapist before every visit?
iA says expenses from providers whose business practices do not meet its standards are not covered by group insurance. A provider's standing can change, so iA asks members to check the Provider search in My Client Space or iA Mobile before each treatment rather than once.
Can an acupuncturist bill iA directly?
iA lists acupuncturists, massage therapists, chiropractors and physiotherapists among the professionals who can submit claims directly from their office when you present the group benefit card. Whether a given clinic does so is its own choice, so ask when you book.
Where do I mail an iA claim from Alberta?
iA's medical expenses claim form sends claims from outside Quebec to Group Health and Dental Claims, PO Box 4643, Station A, Toronto, Ontario M5W 5E3. Attach the original receipts, which are not returned, and keep a copy for your taxes.
