Calgary Specialists in the Art of Lymphatic Drainage Massage

“ Lymphatic Drainage Massage Therapy (LDT), some of you may know it referred to as Manual Lymphatic Drainage, is a method of stimulating and helping “reroute” the body’s stagnant lymph and body fluids. It is a very gentle hands-on procedure that will help you eliminate fluid retention, cleanse your body and eliminate toxins and trapped proteins in your tissues. It will stimulate your immune system, help you to relax, and release stress and emotional trauma. It has many other effects on your body. ”

What is Lymphatic Drainage Massage?

Lymphatic drainage massage, also known as manual lymphatic drainage (MLD), is a specialized technique that promotes lymph flow throughout the body. This light-touch therapy helps remove toxins, reduce fluid retention, and enhance the immune system’s function. Our trained Calgary Lymphatic Drainage Massage Therapists use precise, rhythmic movements to stimulate the lymphatic system, encouraging the natural circulation of lymph fluids and supporting overall health.

Our skilled practitioners use their hands to assess and enhance overall circulation as well as determine the best alternate pathways for draining stagnant body fluid. Therapists work with flat hands, using only 5 grams of pressure to simulate specific wave-like movements. These subtle manual maneuvers activate lymph and interstitial fluid circulation as well as stimulate the functioning of the immune and parasympathetic nervous systems.

Calgary Certified Lymphedema Therapists at Renu Health and Wellness

Lymphedema is an accumulation of protein-rich fluid in the superficial tissues and is a very common and serious condition worldwide. It has important pathological and clinical consequences for the patient if left untreated. Secondary lymphedema is often caused by trauma to the lymphatic system, such as surgery, injury, scarring, infection and radiation therapy. Post-mastectomy lymphedema of the upper extremity caused by breast cancer treatment is very common. Another cause for lymphedema is malformations of the lymphatic system (primary lymphedema). In such cases the swelling may appear after simple accidents such as sports injuries, which can suddenly overload the lymphatic system.

Using exacting anatomical science and distinctive manual processes, LDT enables practitioners to detect the specific rhythm, direction, depth and quality of the lymph flow anywhere in the body. From there they can use their hands to perform Manual Lymphatic Mapping (MLM) of the vessels to assess overall circulation and determine the best alternate pathways for draining body fluid stagnations.
